Database storage

Postby Structure » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:41 am

Just wondering where the actual postgres database is stored? I was just messing around creating new databases/deleating old ones and could not seem to find where the actual databases are stored on my computer. I would imagin they will eventually take up a lot of space, so when I remove/delete them from my PT3 I would like to confirm they are gone.

After I started to look, I could not even find where the postgress program was stored on my computer (took a complete system search to find). If I wanted to could I uninstall postgress? Is there anywhere I can read to learn a little more about postgress?

PostgreSQL databases are not stored in a single file but many smaller files to improve performance. They are located under the PostgreSQL\<version>\data\base directory. You should not modify or move these files directly. Removing a database simply unlinks it from PokerTracker. If you want to completely get rid of the database, you need to use the 'Delete' command and I can assure you that they are deleted (this is unrecoverable).

PostgreSQL can be uninstalled like any other program, via your Windows Control Panel. I highly recommend not doing this unless if you have no intentions to use PostgreSQL again. It can cause problems when going to reinstall for a typical user.

One nice thing about PostgreSQL is that documentation is excellent. As good as any product that I have used.

Visit [url=http://www.postgresql.org/iw3]PostgreSQL.org[/urliw3] for their complete documentation.

Best regards,
