what i want to do is keep the current default pop-up stats, while creating a completely new layout. i was playing around and ended up adding blank test and blank lines to the and blank stats to the screen that is always present by the player that started with name, hands, vp, pr. now those are there plus / / / / / and a couple of lines under.

how to i return to the default.

Then, how do i leave that as is, and use it, while developing a new popup in a grid style, and test it from time to time, but still have the default as a backup?

If you reset the layout to default it will remove ALL the changes you have made.
With PT3 stopped, delete (or rename, if you want to keep your current layout for reference) the file:
c:\program files\pokertracker 3\data\layouts.pt3

When you restart PT3 it will recreate the default layout.
You don't need a backup of the default layout, because you can always repeat this.

When you change your layout and get something you are happy with, make a copy of the above file as a backup in case you then make more changes and break anything.
