Shorten Playername

I'm trying to shorten the playername. I've tried using substring (str_player_name from 1 for 6) or substr ( str_player_name , 1, 6 ) I've tried it with double quotes, single quotes and no quotes. I've tried using 'player.player_name' instead. Without success. What am I doing wrong?

There isn't a way to do this yet, although the developers are aware of this as a request because it's been suggested before.
