How to reduce resource consumption on older system

Hello,

I just installed Pokertracker (2) and PAH on an older Laptop. Obviously the resources aren´t that good. I have 512MB RAM and a relatively slow hard disk. The CPU is an older P4 mobile with a 1,8 ghz cpu.

When playing, I experience the following problem: Although I set the value on only 7 seconds, the mucked hands remain displayed on the table for minutes and won´t disappear, although a new hand is already in process.

When I import hands into pokertracker, the whole system freezes.

Do you have any recommendations for improving my system? Is there anything that can be done to lower the resource consumption of Pokertracker, Pokerace Hud or my system in general? I already installed a lean windows xp professional system and left out most unnecessary stuff.

Maybe upgrading the ram to a gig will help somewhat. Also, my laptop goes faster when plugged into the wall compared to (say) running on batteries, so that might help also. How big is your database?

How big is your database?

If I use all data, it´s around 200.000 hands stored in postgresql. Of course I don´t have to use all data, so most of the time, there are ~20-50k hh to be used.

Hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE to open your Task manager. Under the processes tab, find 'ptrack.exe' and right-click -> Set Priority -> Below Normal.

That should help cut down on your computer freezing during imports. Otherwise, there is not much we can do on an older system with that many hand histories...

You will more than likely need to keep your database small if you want any type of decent performance.
