Tourney time window unreasonably slow

Since I started using PT it has taken longer and longer to open the preferences window in the external tourney time window. I attributed that to the fact that the database is growing, although I don't fully understand why it has to hang for 30 seconds before you can open a simple dialog like that.

Now I bought a brand new, much much faster, PC with Windows Vista on it, and I imported my old database into the newly installed tracker. To my surprise now it now takes something like five minutes to open the preferences dialog. This is very counter intuitive, because I would assume that since the new computer is faster, the hang should be shorter.

Anyone knows why my tourney time window freezes? Is it supposed to do that, or is there something wrong with my database?

Do you have a large number of player names in your database (i.e. you've imported a lot of tournament summaries from PokerStars from large tournaments where there are 1000's of player names)? If so, it's likely that it's taking this time to populate the dropdown list of player names that appears at the top of the window. You can start a new database or use the "Delete Players w/ no hands loaded or winnings" button on the File > Tournament Results - Manual Entry > Poker Stars window. You would have to do this for each of the large tournaments. Then use the Purge Players button on the Utilities > Database Maintenance and Options window and it will delete the player names from that table so that the preferences window should be quicker to open.
