moving databases to an external hard drive

I am trying to move my database, processed files, and hand history databases to an external hard drive. If anyone could give me a detailed description of how to get this done, it would be very helpful. My computer is beginning to run slowly due to the amount of information in my databases and files from pokertracker.

Just having the files on your main hard drive should not be causing the entire computer to run slow.
