how do i.... and should i start a new database

Postby bradleyboy » Wed Jul 02, 2008 5:35 am

hello all. I have about 150K hands in my PT2 database. It seems to take forever if I want to check someones stats in the middle of a hand. So long in fact, that i will time out prior to their stats popping up. I assume that I need to start a new database but I don't know how. However, when I do then the stats that I have for a new player probably won't show up with my HUD (GameTime +). Can someone walk me through what I should do. I.E. How do I separate limit games from NL in a database? How can I combine say one or two limits into a single base? etc. Thanks

Have you already switched to postgres databases?

Even on a small database of 20,000 hands postgres is 4-5 times faster for me.

pat, you are so quick to reply and have been for the last 3-4 years I have used your product. I appreciate that. If I do start a new database by following the link that you sent, would it be like starting over? For example, I sit at a table with a player that I have played 1000 hands with, but would the new database show that this is the first hand I have been dealt with him? If that is the case then our previous history has been a waste. Can you tell me how you make use of the ring game stats in a speedy matter during the heat of battle? Hope I am not making this more complicated than it is. Brad

If you are using GT+ then it can only read from one database, if you use PokerAce is can combine the data from multiple data sources therefore you aren't losing anything by creating a new db. With GT+ you are.

I would recommend using some filters on the Preferences tab of the stats window to have it only show the last couple of months worth of data (use the "Since a date" feature). That way it's not trying to retrieve the entire database all the time. Also, possibly try using the Game Time tab to pull of user stats - you can see basis stats on this tab and then if you double-click it shows more details.

thanks pat, those were the answers I was looking for. I will use the preference tab. I have had probs with Poker Ace and will stick with game time whcih seldom fails me. Brad
