Why are satellite wins recorded as losses?

Postby Brokenghost » Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:01 pm

Hi all,

I was looking through my results today in Poker Tracker and I noticed that when I win a ticket via a satellite, it's counted as a loss as far as profit/loss is concerned. Is this by design, or is it a bug of some kind? Doesn't seem right to me anyway - surely it shouldn't be any different from cashing in a tournament? For example, in the shot attached there are two tournaments listed - one is a $7.50 satellite that I won a ticket in worth $109. The second one is the $109 tournament, which I did not cash in. Both tournaments are detailed in the list with the rake removed from the buy-in figure. So as far as Poker Tracker is concerned, these two tournaments appear to amount to a loss of around $107.50, when in actual fact my loss was only the initial $7.50. This has happened with other satellite tournaments too, and it has the effect of making my results look like I'm losing significantly more than I am when I win a satellite ticket and then don't cash in the satellite. Is there a way to fix this?

Cheers.

The value of the target tournament isn't always known but you can manually edit these satellite tournament results in PokerTracker 4 to account for the value of the ticket won which will offset the buyin on the target tournament. If there is enough information for PokerTracker 4 to determine the value of the target tournament in your poker sites hand history/tournament summary files or if you are not sure then you can attach your examples to a Support Ticket.

Okay thanks. Yes, I'm aware I can edit these manually and I've been doing so. I'm just pointing out that this is clearly an area that could be improved in the software - ideally users should not need to make these edits themselves. If I hadn't realise that this was taking place, then I could have carried on indefinitely under the belief that I was losing a lot of money, with no explanation as to why. I really think this is something the team should look at and try and improve.

Cheers
