Db on external disk

I installed PT4 on two different Mac. Can I create a DB on an external HD to use it on both?

This is possible but not recommended - you would need to make sure to stop the server before ejecting the disk to move it and any failure to do so could result in an irretrievably corrupted database. See our guide here for a safer way to sync your data.
